     Hi Mauro

I was pleased to find your Nina Simone website, which I was prompted to do because I've just been listening to Fodder in My Wings this afternoon. I'm intrigued to learn more about For a While, one of my favourite NS recordings - at least in the live version, not the awful soupy version on the Nina's Back album. I may even have to track down the Sinatra album that it's on.

Anyway, thanks for a great website. I'll keep on looking at it!

Glad to say, I'm just another fan!  To think, when  I fell in love with Dr. Simone's work, I thought I was discovering an unknown or forgotten treasure (none of my peers were familiar with her or her work, though they are now!).  The first compilation I heard transformed me into a devoted fan (that was about four years, 15 CDs, and 3 tapes ago). Your website is marvellous, and definately a fitting shrine of praise to the "high priestess".  I am a Bahamian, and was absolutely shocked when I first saw Susan Maloney's contribution (mentioning that Nina had worked with a late, great Bahamian artist).  Since then I have been searching for the RCA release "It Is Finished" where I think Nina smiles on two of Bahamian Legend Exuma's work -- but I have had no luck in finding it -- if you have any idea about how I could get it, I'd be grateful to know.
Finally, I have written a poem (yes, I too think myself to be a bit of a poet) about the Nina experience.  I'm sure many of Dr. Simone's fans will be able to relate, and I would love to share it with them (I feel like we're kindred spirits). Please contact me if you're interested (stewart@batelnet.bs).

The "My Baby Just Cares for Me" CD isn't a 87 Green Line item, but

From:  Provincetown Public Library Public Terminal <ptown@ptownlib.com>
    To whom it may concern:
I sit here elated, at peace with myself, and the world.  For the first time in my 39 years of life, I heard a Nina Simone recording.  I am a singer by nature.  I had no idea that there was someone that could have
such a similar feeling of life.  The songs that I heard, I needed.  I
have become a street performer in the town of Provincetown.  I am out
there singing with just my voice.  People are being moved.  You will
here of me someday!  It is human nature for people to listen to singers.
Her music is actually the catalist that is going to bring a town
together for the whole world to see.  Mark my words. Whoever this letter
is going to, you are my witness!!

My life is so similar to the songs, that I went right out, and spent all
the money I had in the world to get all the music that I could.  I
purchased three CD's immediatedly.  Spent every waking moment since
learning how to capture her style.  It works quite well.  Again, YOU ARE
GOING TO HEAR OF ME!!  It truly is a miracle in my life.

I've spent most of my private time imitating musicians.  Never in all my
life have a met someone that I could relate to so deeply.  Thank You
    Nina!

    Greetings!
My name is Luz Mireya Román, I am from Puerto Rico.

I became a fan of Nina Simone since I heard her music in the movie "Point of no Return".

The next day I went to the music store and buyed my first cassette.
Since then I am enchanted by her lovely and at the same time strong and powerful voice. Nina inspired me to do a reaserch for my English Liteture class about the meanings of jazz and soul in american slaves.
I used her "Missisippi Goddam" as an example for my oral test.

The point of my interest in Nina is that She brings out all kinds of feelings that my self experienced since I am looking for my self.
All the energy that is beneath my skin, She brings out with
    "If I should loose you",
    "I hold no grudge"
"I put a spell on you" and all and all, just imazing how my life and the way I see my life and the life, the world, since I know Nina from the fisrt track to the number 8 I own.

I will like to meet this "woman" and just hug her so she may feel what she has done for me.
But, that is something that may never happen. I know her She doesn't know me, and that is why I am writing you. Let Her know that someone, not, not just someone, me Mireya from this beautyful island in the caribean,
loves Her for Her music and Her soul that She shares with the world.

    Thank you

As you can see, I'm a very serious admirer of Miss Nina Simone, The High
Priestess of Soul.  In fact, I even named my e-mail address after her, sort
of like my offspring.    When I'm blue, I know she is next to me.  The wind
becomes less wild when she feeds my soul during many metamorphic moments.

I make it a point to hear her voice almost every day of my life.  I make it a
point to find her songs on every jukebox.  I make it a point to tell all my
lousy dates about my addiction to this woman.  I make it a point to whistle a
tune whenever whistling is required.  I make it a point, and this is not
because of Nina  Simone, to discuss, fight, eliminate and send to hell all
those who think color and people of color are Strange Fruits.  Our society's
hands are stained with blood that won't wash out no matter how hard we try to
bleach them.  I make it a point to demonstrate that I am one white woman, a
product of XYZ  GENERATION, whose soul must have travelled through jungles,
warded off wild beasts and arrived in this land of ours to set an example
that yes:  You don't have to live next to me, just give me my equality.

Now that I've expressed my mission, I would like to request one thing:  I
would like a nice poster of my goddess;  One I could frame and hang in my
living room.  Does something like this exist?  Where can I get it in the New
York City area (I looked in almost every frame shop and old poster dive)?
     Please reply soonest.

And if ever, I meet Nina, even for one moment, I shall consider it an honor
    and a privilege.

    yours,

    Ninatoo

Kudos! to you on creating this marvelous website on the the living legend, Dr Nina Simone.  I've been a fan forever and glory in the fact that she is a revolutionary diva with a genius that no one can take away from her. I've read the interviews she'd given to American magazine publications and needless to say, the interviewers are always looking for the "dirt" or something outrageous to sell newspapers.  Have any of these writers ever bothered to simply ask what it is that she feels compelled to discuss?  Dr Simone has never mixed her words, I'm sure she has plenty of commentary on more interesting subjects than they can conjure.  With that said, can you tell me what record label Dr Simone is presently with and who her management is?

    Thanks for your help.

hello...i've recently discovered your website devoted to ms. simone...i am presently involved in writing a paper that posits nina as a true 20th century diva...one of the few remaining who can assume the mantle left in the absence of la callas' death...i'm exploring the various issues of race, sexulaity and the body...how these binanries come together in the figure of the prima donna...more importantly, the figure of the jazz/r
and b diva...the containment of such opposing forces in a body that is continually subjugated in the very act of performance...socially and racially undermined, as well as genderized.

Thank you for this gift of info on my favorite artist of all time. I first heard Nina on January 25, 1992 at a friend's house. A friend of her's had dropped off a cassette from England with the first recordings Nina had made on Bethlehem. I was transfigured. My life really did change. People probably thought I had lost my mind. Just listened to Nina at Newport for the first time last night and the transformation begins again.

Nina, you cannot know the effect your music has had on me. When you were in Los Angeles last I didn't even have bus fare. I am saving a dollar so I at least get to the door. I even met your hair dresser Charles before he passed away from AIDS. His friend does my hair now.

Thank God for you, Nina Simone.

I know this may sound absurd, living in Alaska etc., but I may have found some of Ms. Simone's original recordings. I have been one of those with no talent, but with some reason to appreciate the beauty that was impossible for me. I've always loved Ms. Simone's beautiful voice, as well as the almost incomprehensible delivery. Bottom line is her voice is without parallel.
The possibility of obtaining these recordings is still rather remote. I have no desire to profit from pursuing, but if you would like will do what I can. I will ask only one thing: all or any of her recordings on one tape that I may take out with me this summer when I'm, once again, prospecting and- with some luck- mining gold. I doubt that you have a hint of what I'm talking about, as most sane people don't: all I can say is that Gold is not only a compulsive pursuit, but an obsessive one. Oh well, any response is, and and will be, appreciated.

    Greetings,

My compliments on the Nina Simone Web site - comprehensive and democratic in design!
A couple of questions: First, does anyone have any new information regarding the documentary about Nina that her brother, Sam Waymon, is producing (anybody have his e:mail address)?
Secondly, I would like to secure rights to use her recording of the Randy Newman song BALTIMORE (actually just about 15 seconds of the song) for a video I am producing about an Outsider artist. I will go to the publishing company regarding this matter. I would imagine she would be very proprietary about her recordings.
However, if you, or other visitors, have any insight to this sort of request, I would appreciate any suggestions or info. Thanks.

    Hello Mauro ,

My name is Carl Skinner , I'm here in New Zealand reading your page, I just had to write to say how well you've laid it out .

I'm very fond of Miss Simone myself , but sadly have never seen her in concert yet. Nina Simone came to New Zealand in the early 1990's (Unfortunately I was living in Japan at the time ). The concert was broadcast on the radio here , I may even have it on tape somewhere, I can't guarantee it but I'll have a look .

I am also a big Shirley Bassey fan and would like to create a page for her like your's is for Nina. There are two very good pages devoted to Shirley already but I think you honour Nina better . I have most of the albums in your directory as well as her book and the Ronnie Scott appearance on video , does your copy have a blank spot and then come back on with an extra bit of interview that is" unusual" to say the least . I would love to find more interviews live with Miss Simone because she seems to me to be a woman of great honesty .

And ah, she plays music and sings like no other, a truely unique angel .

Look forward to returning to your page again soon , Best wishes , Carl Skinner

I am a freshman in high school, and recently did a report on Nina Simone's autobiography, I Put A Spell On You. I must admit, although I have never heard her music, she has had a fantastic life. I'd like to personally thank you for having this web-site because I was having trouble making a timeline due to the massive amount of things that this woman has completed.
Thank you again. I'm sure you've helped others as well.

A long-distance friend recommended Nina Simone and told me about her wed site and I decided to look it up. I love the titles and lyrics to some of her songs. There is only one small problem: This is a very comprehensive site except for one thing: why not add samplings of some of Nina's work so that those who are not familiar with her might get to know her and THEN BUY HER ALBUMS?

    Just a thought.

Ciao Mauro! You sent me a message several months ago and it took me a long time to get to it, but I finally visited your Nina site, and loved it.

Thank you so much for gathering all this data. May I ask you how you became interested in Nina Simone? What is it you like most about her?

As for you comment about not being fluent in English, it seems you are just being modest: your English is perfectly fine. But since you insist on getting corrective input, I could point out a few minor details in the transcription of some French lyrics. They're probably just typos, but I thought I'd point them out, because I so enjoyed reading this poetry in my native language.

Anyway, thanks again for the wonderful resource, and have a good week-end. -Delphine

Let me first congradulate and thank you for an excellent web site about Nina Simone. She truly is one of the finest voices of our time. Though I only have a couple of her works currently, I look forward to purchasing more.
My question is this: my fiancee and I are getting married this summer, and would love to have our first dance to Nina. Can you recommed a song that would suite the occasion? Most her the songs I have deal with loss, pain, or are too fast to slow dance to. Any help you could give would be much appreciated.

I'm glad to see some interest in this multi talented multi faceted (spelling?) performer. I love her piano playing (jazz with Bach type classical stylings) Her singing is sooooooooo interesting. Further I enjoy the way she flirts with flirts with so many different styles (show tunes, jazz, gospel etc.) She brings drama to all her settings.

Hi, I've just visited your Nina Simone website and I must admit to being upset and disappointed. Not by your website. In fact I think it is one of the best and most complete sites for a singer that I have seen.
No, I'm disappointed by Simone's comments on being compared to Billie Holiday. She said that it was an " insult" and that she( Billie) was a " drug addict." I would want to dis Simone just because she dissed Billie but I recall a comment by Simone that every time she heard Billie's music, she hears something new, and she has referred to Billie as one of her influences. She even recorded Billie's " Porgy" for which she received an approving note from Billie which Simone reportedly treasured.

So what is the deal about her comments in Details? I'm sure Billie was a drug addict when she sent Simone the note. Shouldn't Simone have just torn up the note since it was from a " drug addict"? I guess Simone was just messed up when she said what she said( I'm sure Billie has done the same to someone before) but it burns me up anyway.
Simone of all people should know what it's like to be in Billie's shoes as her autobiography testifies that they faced a lot of the same problems. Why she would say something like this is simply beyond me. I hope you'll print this letter in your fan e-mail column and let me know what other fans think about this.

    Robin.
P.S. I should add that I am sort of a fan of Simone's music, but that doesn't mean that I'm necessarily a fan of her character.

    Dear Mauro,

    Your website is great!!!
I saw her when she came to Sydney in 1993, and read I Put a Spell on You, but I haven't heard much since!

I have been trying to track down some charts/music sheets of her music, but none seem to be available in Australia. Would you have any idea where I could find them!!. Piano/Vocal arrangements would be preferable. Maybe there is another web site with a catalogue of her music that I don't yet know about.

Also, could you confirm a rumour that I have heard. Apparently she came here (to Sydney) in the early 70's. She had a concert to play at the Hordern Pavilion, but before she had played one song she collapsed on the piano as she had drunk too much!! This was conveniently left out of her biography.

Anyway, I am signing off now, but I really enjoyed your website.

Please reply to: Lisa Scoulou on the address attached.

Congratulations on quite a complete page. I only need sound now. I am a great fan of Nina's art from way back and hadn't found much more information about her up until now. I love her voice, depth, passion and pathos so much, I just barely dare to give an opinion about her. She is that sacred to me. Especially because I have to wait to travel or have her cd's especially mailed to me. It is impossible to find her in this country. As I said before, there is not much I dare say about NINA, except that she moves me beyond words and she has done good by sharing with us her gift for music. Can you imagine having that beautiful voice AND bare your soul with it?

    Hey Mauro.
Nice site, but you may want to add some images, sounds, etc... Also, on the Jazz Masters 58 news, you should add an "n" at the end of "see" in "have you see this Cd?". In "why not tell your opinion...", it would sound better as just "give your opinion..."

Once again nice site man. I look forward to dive into it often. I just started listening to Nina, so I don't know much about her, but if you need any help with english do not hesitate to ask. I understand italian and speak spanish (besides english), so if you don't know how to write it in english, just write it in italian.

Mauro, The page looks VERY nice. I used the American version. Since you asked for suggestions, I would say this: 1. Once inside the US version, I love it! I would put some more things on the homepage. Maybe some lyrics a few other photos, maybe an album cover or two.
Maybe some creative descriptions of her. 2. It was a little unsettling to pick the American flag and then not have all of the text in English. It looks like you did a lot of work! I can't wait to dive into it all.
Thanks for promoting the creat one,

Hello Mauro, thanks for your message and invitation to have a look at your webpage.
Incidentally, did we communicate before?? I wonder how you got my e-mail address???
    From Tracy's page??

Well, now as to your asking me to comment on your webpage: as I don't speak Italian, I can't say much. However, it appears that you've have included a lot of information  on Nina. It looks really good. It's the most informative site of info on Nina I think (given that I can't read it) that I have seen to date. Once I get around to making my own webpage I shall include a link to yours. I also communicated with Tracy Jensen a little while ago and was happy that someone has given Nina that much deserved presence on the WWW. Your webpage offers a rather comprehensive view of Nina's personality and events associated with her. Congratulations on the good work.

I very much admire the lady; have seen her twice in concert and do hope that she'll make another album in the not too distance future. I possess most of her CD's and albums and am always looking for more info.
Your page offered that as I didn't know that there will be a film on her life. I had the great fortune to see the documentary made by Arte while I was in Europe. I think it's never been shown on this continent but I am not sure. Well, I guess that's about it as far as my comments go. Stay in touch if you like.

Thanks, again for the invitation to comment. Greetings from Vancouver.
