"The day of the show I dressed in a long white gown draped over one shoulder and white satin shoes. Don was with me that evening because I was a little nervous - not on performing, but of being around so many people backstage. I needed a familiar face. I stood in the wings and looked out at the audience, sitting in neat rows with no drinks in thei hands, no cigarette girls walking up and down to distract them, and no out-of-tune piano to ruin my performance. The MC called my name and I walked on like an Egyptian queen - slow, calm and serious.
...
Colpix recorded the concert and released it as Nina Simone at Town Hall, so if you don't believe me you can listen for yourself. The reviews were the best I had ever had. I was a sensation. An overnight success, like in the movies."
