Seems like only yesterday, I remember it was back in the early sixties when I first travelled north to Philadelphia, when a friend of mine told me of an engagement in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So he spoke to the club owner and he succesfully achieved that goal. It seems that the club owner was expecting a singer and me, I, I was a pianist, I've never been a singer, I was a pianist. And he said to me, he said: "Listen , young lady, if you wanna keep this job, you gotta sing. Can you sing, Nina?" And I said: "Well, I've never sung before, but I know one song, one song, and it goes like this:
I love you Porgy
I love you Porgy
Thank you very much and thank you for coming to see me.
I love you very much. We're sorry we've been a long way gone
so long from you but we come back to see you again.
